Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has introduced the Green Drive Portal at the Delhi Secretariat as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, aiming to plant 70 lakh saplings in the capital. She encouraged all Delhi residents to join the plantation campaign for a cleaner and healthier city. The portal allows citizens to book slots for the Mega Plantation Drive, register as Environmental Saviours, and obtain free saplings from nearby government nurseries.
The Vriksh Rath program, under the Forest Department, will assist in planting saplings at homes, schools, residential areas, and other suitable locations by providing free saplings and technical support. The Green Drive Portal offers four key services to the public, including booking plantation slots, requesting free saplings delivery through Vriksh Rath, locating nearby government nurseries, and registering as Environmental Saviours to support environmental initiatives year-round.
The plantation campaign will emphasize planting native and long-living tree species like Peepal, Banyan, Gular, Neem, Arjun, and Jamun. Additionally, the Delhi government plans to establish 100 Oxygen Parks in the city as part of its green efforts. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa highlighted that the Green Drive Portal has categorized plantation sites across all 70 Assembly constituencies, enabling citizens to book slots conveniently. The campaign aims to promote greening not only in designated areas but also in homes, schools, and rooftop gardens.
