Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed sorrow over the death of a minor in a road accident in Shalimar Bagh. She highlighted that illegal encroachments along the roadside hindered traffic flow, leading to accidents and loss of life and property. Gupta mentioned a previous incident involving the death of a five-year-old in the same area due to traffic mismanagement.
The Shalimar Bagh Police reported that a minor died on the spot after a tempo hit the motorcycle they were riding. The Chief Minister extended condolences to the deceased minor from Ambedkar Nagar, Haiderpur, emphasizing that such accidents could have been prevented without illegal encroachments. Gupta attributed the traffic congestion to encroachments on government land during the previous administration’s tenure.
Gupta revealed that the Delhi High Court had ordered the removal of over 140 illegal units on Road No. 320 in the area. Additionally, a new underpass constructed by the Delhi government aims to streamline traffic flow from Azadpur to the Outer Ring Road near Mukarba Chowk. The Chief Minister highlighted the challenges posed by major hospitals, educational institutions, and police establishments in the area due to persistent traffic pressure caused by illegal encroachments.
She informed that the Delhi government’s petition in the Delhi High Court led to the directive to eliminate illegal constructions. Gupta emphasized that once these encroachments are cleared, traffic movement from North Delhi will improve, allowing vehicles direct access to the Outer Ring Road from the Ring Road.
