Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has cautioned fire, civic, and other officials about facing severe disciplinary measures for breaching fire safety regulations and carrying out unauthorized constructions that pose risks to lives. In a high-level meeting attended by top officers from various departments like MCD, Delhi Police, Fire, and DDA, CM Gupta emphasized the enforcement of existing laws to hold negligent officials accountable. She highlighted that officials found derelict in their duties could face up to a two-year prison term and substantial fines.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of effectively implementing laws that mandate the government’s recovery of losses from salaries, pensions, or properties of culpable officials. Discussions in the meeting revolved around strategies to prevent tragic incidents like the recent fire in Malviya Nagar and to crack down on unauthorized constructions. CM Gupta asserted a firm stance by declaring that all individuals responsible for the Malviya Nagar fire, including building owners and officials, will face consequences without exception.
To enhance public safety in the capital, the Chief Minister underscored the necessity of a comprehensive approach encompassing adherence to safety standards, robust monitoring systems, and a system of accountability. This, she believes, is crucial to averting future tragedies and making Delhi a safer place for its residents. The meeting, which was attended by senior officials from various departments, aimed to address the lapses that led to the Malviya Nagar fire and ensure accountability.
CM Gupta reiterated her commitment to taking stringent actions against illegal properties, hotels, guest houses operating without proper authorization, and any establishments in Delhi flouting fire safety regulations and building bylaws. She emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the Malviya Nagar guest house fire and the establishment of accountability for the incident.
