The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has appointed new heads and members for the Delhi Commission for Women and Delhi Minorities Commission. Lata Gupta has been named as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, with Shyam Bala, Malti Verma, Lata Sodhi, Sanrakshika Sharma Jha, and Renu Bhalla appointed as Members. The Chief Minister’s Office highlighted the crucial role of the Delhi Commission for Women in ensuring women’s safety, respect, rights protection, and empowerment.

In a move to support marginalized sections of society, the Delhi government also appointed Nirmal Jain as the Chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission, along with Kuldeep Singh and Mohammad Haroon as Members. The government emphasized its commitment to upholding the rights, dignity, and welfare of all societal segments, aiming to foster social harmony and inclusive development. These appointments are seen as a significant step towards strengthening the rights and welfare of all communities.

The Delhi Commission for Women’s key appointment coincided with the National Commission for Women (NCW) announcing a new Toll-Free Helpline Number, 14490, to aid women in distress. The NCW’s initiative aims to provide immediate assistance and support to women nationwide, enhancing grievance redressal mechanisms. The NCW emphasized the importance of timely help accessibility for women across the country through this easily remembered helpline number.

Additionally, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar participated in a Leadership Development Training Programme for District Magistrates and District Superintendents of Police in Lonavala. During the event, a 10-point action plan was discussed to ensure women’s safety and empowerment, urging officials to prioritize these aspects for societal betterment.
