The Delhi government has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Malviya Nagar fire incident. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Max Hospital in Saket to meet the victims injured in the fire, which claimed the lives of 21 individuals. The fire occurred at Hotel Flourish Stays in Malviya Nagar, where 21 people tragically lost their lives, including nine Indians and 12 foreigners from countries like Bangladesh, Liberia, Nigeria, and Mozambique.
CM Gupta interacted with the injured and their families, overseeing their treatment and directing officials to provide necessary assistance. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) mentioned that medical expenses for the injured will be managed in collaboration with the hospital to ensure optimal care for all patients. An ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased, while those seriously injured will receive Rs 5 lakh in aid. The government is arranging for the transportation of the deceased to their homes.
The fire affected multiple floors of the building, with investigations ongoing into the incident by the Delhi Fire Services. The blaze, which started in the early morning, led to the evacuation of 47 individuals from the building. Lavkesh Bajaj, the hotel building owner, has been arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the fire incident. Authorities are looking into safety violations, regulatory lapses, and possible negligence that may have contributed to the tragedy.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has pledged strict action against those accountable, with expected actions within a week. Police have filed a case under culpable homicide and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), focusing on negligence and safety regulation violations.
