The Health Department in Delhi has allocated 275 internship seats to foreign medical graduates (FMGs) to support their professional development. This move aims to address the long-standing issue of FMGs awaiting internship opportunities after passing the mandatory examination. Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted the significance of this initiative in enabling FMGs to fulfill the final requirement for registration and start practicing as medical professionals.
Of the total internship seats, 68 have been assigned in seven teaching hospitals, including prominent institutions like ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Safdarjung Hospital. An additional 207 seats have been distributed across five non-teaching hospitals, further expanding internship opportunities for FMGs. Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to nurturing young medical professionals and fortifying the healthcare system through such initiatives.
The Delhi government’s proactive approach under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership underscores its dedication to building a skilled healthcare workforce. By streamlining the internship placement process for FMGs, the government aims to ensure that deserving candidates receive comprehensive professional training without delays. The Health Department’s collaboration with teaching and non-teaching hospitals has facilitated transparent counselling and fair seat allocation, expediting the internship commencement for FMGs.
