After the Delhi High Court granted conditional relief to expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar by suspending the life sentence awarded to him in the 2017 Unnao rape case, Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Kumar Rai expressed concern over the court’s decisions. The court, through a Division Bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, suspended Sengar’s life sentence and granted him bail pending his appeal challenging the conviction.
Rajeev Kumar Rai commented on the situation, highlighting the complexity of understanding court decisions. He mentioned the efforts made by the Uttar Pradesh government to protect Sengar and the risks faced by the victim’s family. Rai emphasized the need for adequate security for the family and urged the court to reconsider its decision in light of the circumstances.
In response to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s statement regarding Hindu-Muslim issues, Rajeev Kumar Rai criticized the BJP for engaging in such politics. He pointed out that the BJP’s discourse heavily relies on divisive topics like Hindu-Muslim relations, questioning the party’s stance on secularism and vote bank politics.
