Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh commended the Union Budget 2026–27, emphasizing the increased allocation for social justice and welfare sectors. The budget saw a rise of about 12.5% to approximately Rs 14,800 crore for sectors aiding weaker and disadvantaged sections, aiming to uplift them.
Singh, who oversees departments related to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes Welfare, Cooperation, and Elections, hailed the budget as a significant move towards the nation’s holistic development and the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision. He noted that the budget, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focuses on social justice, inclusive growth, and empowering marginalized communities.
The minister highlighted provisions exceeding Rs 9,200 crore to enhance the involvement of Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class students and youth in education, skill development, and employment opportunities. Additionally, around Rs 1,350 crore was allocated in the budget to empower persons with disabilities through access to assistive devices, skill training, and job prospects.
In the healthcare domain, the budget includes measures to expand trauma care, emergency services, and cancer day-care facilities, benefitting vulnerable segments of society. Singh also pointed out the significant 45% increase in the cooperation sector’s allocation, amounting to about Rs 1,150 crore, aimed at promoting agriculture, digitalization, training, and employment opportunities.
Efforts are underway to ensure affordable essential commodities through cooperative institutions and stores for the general public, with a focus on developing training and institutional infrastructure in Delhi to bolster the cooperative movement. Singh emphasized that the budget aligns with the principles of social justice and equal opportunity envisioned by Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, prioritizing the upliftment of the exploited, deprived, and Antyodaya sections.
Singh expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister, foreseeing that the budget’s initiatives will elevate both the nation and Delhi to new heights.
