Delhi Environment, Forest, and Wildlife Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, along with Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, spearheaded a tree plantation initiative at the PBG Ground in the Delhi Ridge. This campaign, influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Green Campaign, aims to plant 70 lakh trees and saplings throughout Delhi this year. The project, aligned with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s eco-restoration program, focuses on planting 15 lakh trees in the Ridge and other green spaces to enhance Delhi’s ecological equilibrium.
Inspired by Amit Shah’s vision, the officials are ensuring that each planted tree undergoes scientific monitoring through geo-tagging for sustained growth. They are committed to establishing a lasting green legacy for future generations, emphasizing quality over quantity in the plantation efforts. Delhi’s government has devised a 10-year plantation strategy concentrating on augmenting green cover with indigenous species that offer more oxygen, increased shade, lower water requirements, and pollution mitigation.
The initiative involves geo-tagging every sapling to ensure systematic monitoring and longevity. Drawing wisdom from Guru Granth Sahib, Sirsa highlighted the importance of nature conservation and the message of reverence towards the environment. The campaign has garnered widespread support from various sectors of society, including the judiciary, diplomats, educational institutions, religious bodies, and citizens, aligning with the government’s goal of fostering a collective environmental protection movement.
Delhi’s government, in tandem with the tree plantation campaign, is also actively working towards eliminating the city’s persistent waste piles, marking a significant step in environmental restoration efforts in the capital.
