In a significant development in the fight against narcotics trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Squad (ANS) of Delhi Police has captured a crucial supplier involved in the illicit distribution of ganja in the National Capital Region (NCR). The arrest stemmed from continuous surveillance, technical analysis, and persistent pursuit of leads from a prior investigation under the NDPS Act.
During the earlier case probe, authorities seized a substantial amount of contraband, including 21 kg and 730 grams of ganja, along with 46 grams of smack, valued at approximately Rs 12 lakh in the black market. This arrest is a major setback to an interstate narcotics network operating in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha, according to officials.
On the night of March 11 and 12, acting on specific intelligence, the Anti-Narcotics Squad intercepted two individuals, Akbar, 36, and Firoj Khan, 41, both residents of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, while they were on a scooty carrying two white bags. Legal procedures were followed, leading to the discovery of 21 kg and 730 grams of ganja, considered a commercial quantity, and 46 grams of smack in Firoj Khan’s possession.
A case was registered at Kalyanpuri Police Station in Delhi under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act following the recovery. Firoj Khan, during questioning, disclosed his procurement of ganja from a supplier named Aakash Kumar Digal in Odisha’s Kandhamal district for further distribution in Delhi-NCR. The police emphasized the importance of apprehending the source to curb the inflow of psychotropic substances.
A dedicated team of the Anti Narcotics Squad, East District, was formed under Inspector Arun Kumar’s leadership, with close supervision from ACP Operations Pawan Kumar, to address the situation. The suspected source, Aakash Kumar Digal, was tracked down and arrested in Bhubaneswar after extensive technical analysis and raids across Odisha. The accused, now in custody, is being interrogated to unravel additional links in the narcotics supply chain.
