The Delhi Police arrested a wanted criminal in the early morning in the IP Estate area of the national capital. The accused sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and has been hospitalized. The operation was conducted by the Special Staff of the Central District, leading to the apprehension of the accused wanted for murder and robbery.
Several rounds of gunfire were exchanged during the intense encounter, resulting in the criminal being shot in the leg. The exchange of fire occurred in the IP Estate area, as confirmed by police officials. The arrested individual, identified as Ajay Kalia, is a fugitive involved in multiple criminal cases and was subdued after both sides fired several rounds.
An Inspector from the Special Staff narrowly avoided injury during the exchange as a bullet struck his bulletproof jacket, preventing harm. The Delhi Police received intelligence about the fugitive criminal’s visit to the area, prompting the Special Staff to set up a trap for his capture. Ajay Kalia, upon being intercepted by the police, opened fire on the officers, leading to his shooting and subsequent capture in an injured state.
In a separate incident, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police announced the arrest of a wanted sharpshooter and an alleged arms supplier associated with the Kapil Sangwan gang. The arrested individual, Sumit Punia, a resident of Mahendergarh district in Haryana, was found with a sophisticated country-made pistol and live cartridges during his apprehension. Investigations revealed that Punia had been absconding in connection with a previous encounter case and had known gangster Kapil Sangwan since childhood.
