The Anti-Snatching and Burglary Cell of Delhi Police’s Outer District uncovered an illegal online cricket betting network, leading to the arrest of two individuals under the Delhi Public Gambling Act. Acting on credible intelligence received on May 3, a special team swiftly conducted a raid in the Paschim Vihar area, resulting in the apprehension of Rohit Nagar and Vinay Kumar.
Inspector Ritesh Raj led the team, with close supervision from ACP Virender Dalal, and the operation yielded a significant recovery, including cash, ATM cards, bank passbooks, mobile phones, laptops, and notepads with suspected betting records. The arrested individuals have been charged under the Delhi Public Gambling Act, and the recovered items have been seized as part of legal proceedings.
The police have initiated further investigations to dismantle the larger network and identify additional individuals involved in the illicit betting activities. Online betting poses serious societal risks, leading to financial distress, addiction, and mental health issues, with India implementing stringent penalties, including imprisonment and heavy fines, for those engaged in illegal gambling activities.
