The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a head-constable from the Delhi Police’s Anti-Narcotic Cell on Tuesday. The constable, identified as Ajay, was accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a complainant to avoid implicating her in a criminal case. The CBI initiated action after the accused demanded an initial payment of Rs 15 lakh from the complainant.
Ajay was caught red-handed receiving a negotiated sum of Rs 2 lakh. Subsequent searches at his premises led to the discovery of unaccounted cash totaling Rs 48.87 lakh. This arrest is part of a series of crackdowns on corruption within local law enforcement agencies. The CBI has been actively pursuing cases of malpractice among public servants to uphold integrity.
In recent months, similar incidents have been reported, including the arrest of two Delhi Police personnel in March 2026 for allegedly extorting money from a businessman. Another case involved a Sub-Inspector in South Delhi who was taken into custody for demanding a bribe to influence an ongoing investigation. The CBI has urged the public to report any instances of illegal demands by public officials promptly.
The arrested head-constable is scheduled to appear before a special CBI court for further interrogation. Investigations are ongoing to identify the other individuals mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR) and to trace the origins of the recovered cash.
