In a significant breakthrough against organized crime, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has captured an absconding gangster known as Kaptan alias Tanna, a key associate of Kapil Sangwan (Nandu gang), in connection with a high-value extortion case. The operation resulted in the successful arrest of Kaptan, a wanted accused in a Rs 2 crore extortion case, showcasing effective policing efforts.

The case, registered under FIR No. 347/25 dated August 29, 2025, involves the victim receiving threatening WhatsApp messages and a video demanding Rs 2 crore, with warnings of harm to him and his family if the demand is not met. The accused, Kaptan, played a crucial role in reconnaissance and arms supply for a planned attack on the victim’s house, aiding the gang in their extortion conspiracy.

Following a tip-off on May 1, 2025, a dedicated team led by Inspector Satish Malik, under the supervision of ACP Rajpal Dabas and DCP Harsh Indora, set a trap in Deenpur, Najafgarh, leading to the successful apprehension of the accused. Investigations have revealed Kaptan’s involvement in multiple serious criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and extortion across Delhi-NCR.

Kaptan, a habitual offender with a criminal record of at least 10 serious cases, confessed during interrogation to supplying illegal arms and aiding in planned attacks. The police are conducting further investigations to uncover the gang’s wider network and identify other associates. This arrest marks a significant step towards curbing organized crime and extortion activities in the capital.
