The Delhi Police dismissed as untrue a social media video where a man purported to be a sub-inspector resigning to support a student protest at Jantar Mantar. Emphasizing the need to avoid spreading unverified information online, the police clarified that the individual’s assertions were baseless. Official records revealed no sub-inspector matching the details in the video, labeling it as misleading and a deliberate attempt to misinform.
In response to the misinformation, the Delhi Police cautioned against sharing fake content and vowed to take legal action against those involved in its creation or dissemination. They urged the public to rely solely on verified updates from official sources to prevent the spread of false claims. Pakistan was accused of exploiting the situation in India by orchestrating a misinformation campaign on social media.
The police official condemned the role of foreign-backed social media accounts in propagating divisive content and highlighted the identification and blocking of over 400 Pakistani accounts spreading false narratives. These accounts, previously active during Operation Sindoor, were found to be inciting unrest by sharing manipulated videos and unverified information. Efforts are underway to restrict the reach of these accounts and prevent the dissemination of inflammatory content.
