The Delhi Police has registered an FIR after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) reported a series of cyberattacks on its post-result services portal. The complaint, lodged with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of Delhi Police, highlighted multiple sophisticated attempts to disrupt the portal crucial for student verification and re-evaluation applications. The FIR has been filed under the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Authorities have confirmed that despite the cyberattacks, there has been no breach or compromise of CBSE’s data or systems. The Board emphasized the importance of the portal, which serves numerous students nationwide for post-result services, stating that any disruption could cause significant inconvenience and dissatisfaction among stakeholders.
CBSE took formal action after detecting repeated coordinated attempts to interfere with the portal’s operations. The attacks began on June 2, coinciding with the launch of the verification and re-evaluation application process. The portal, operational since 7 a.m. on June 2, withstood multiple cyberattack attempts on the first day, ensuring uninterrupted services for users.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the attackers aimed to destabilize the platform, impede legitimate access, and extract unauthorized information. The Board labeled these attacks as potentially harmful to national interests. Given the scale and coordination of the attacks, CBSE has requested a thorough investigation by the IFSO Unit and legal action against the perpetrators.
CBSE reiterated the security of its systems and databases, noting no evidence of unauthorized access or data leakage. The attempted breaches were effectively countered through continuous monitoring and response mechanisms. The Board acknowledged the support received from cybersecurity teams of various institutions and government agencies in mitigating the cyber threats.
