The Delhi Police have confirmed the identities of nine out of the 12 foreign nationals who perished in the Malviya Nagar fire incident. Among the 21 casualties at Hotel Flourish Stays, 12 were foreigners from countries like Bangladesh, Liberia, Nigeria, and Mozambique. Authorities have shared the list of foreign nationals with the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate repatriation of their remains to their home countries.
The police determined the identities of the deceased foreigners based on the passports recovered at the site of the tragedy. Following approvals from the respective embassies, DNA profiling was completed for all the foreign victims. Post-mortem examinations on the bodies were conducted with the consent of the embassies.
The fire, which engulfed multiple floors of the building, caused extensive damage due to heat and smoke. Investigations are ongoing as the Delhi Fire Services work to uncover the cause of the blaze. The incident occurred in the early morning hours, spreading rapidly through various levels of the structure.
Rescue operations successfully evacuated 47 individuals, while 26 injured persons are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the city. The owner of the hotel building, Lavkesh Bajaj, has been apprehended by the Delhi Police following the fatal fire outbreak. Authorities are scrutinizing safety violations, regulatory oversights, and potential negligence contributing to the tragic outcome.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi, under BJP governance, has pledged stringent action against those accountable. Officials anticipate swift measures against the responsible parties within a week. A case has been registered by the police under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, focusing on allegations of negligence and safety breaches leading to the high number of casualties.
