In a significant step to integrate former Agniveers into law enforcement, the Delhi Police will now allocate 20% of its constable (executive) positions to individuals who have served under the Agnipath scheme. These candidates will be exempt from the physical efficiency test and granted relaxation in the upper age limit, aligning with the government’s plan to absorb Agniveers into security forces post their four-year armed forces service.

Ex-Agniveers will receive a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit for constable (executive) recruitment, currently set at 18-25 years. Additionally, those from the first Agniveer batch will be eligible for a further five-year relaxation, extending their upper age limit to 30 years. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, under the Delhi Police Act, 1978, has amended recruitment rules to facilitate this integration.

The Ministry of Home Affairs notification outlines details of the constable position, including 42,451 vacancies for 2024, falling under Group C Non-Gazetted/Non-Ministerial classification with a Pay Matrix Level-3 ranging from Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100. The amended rules maintain existing provisions on age limits, qualifications, and disqualifications, with the government empowered to relax provisions for specific candidate categories.

The notification also allows for special reservations and concessions for SC/ST/OBC, ex-servicemen, and sportsmen, in line with Central government directives. These changes, effective immediately, aim to formalize the policy of integrating former Agniveers into the Delhi Police, providing career opportunities while strengthening the force with disciplined personnel. This move is part of ongoing efforts to streamline recruitment for ex-armed forces personnel and encourage Agniveers’ participation in civil security roles.
