Delhi Police reported that doctors have evaluated innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s health, noting his weakness and signs of dehydration due to prolonged fasting. Wangchuk was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital for medical care on the 21st day of his fast amidst protests by fellow activists.
According to Delhi Police, doctors faced disruptions during Wangchuk’s medical examination at the protest site. Due to his fragile health condition, he was moved to Safdarjung Hospital for further assessment and treatment as advised by medical professionals. Wangchuk’s health is currently under close observation, with ongoing tests and expert supervision.
Safdarjung Hospital confirmed Wangchuk’s admission for necessary healthcare, emphasizing his weakened state from fasting and dehydration. While stable, he requires continuous monitoring and treatment to restore his health parameters. The High Court had earlier directed authorities to ensure daily health assessments for Wangchuk to safeguard his life.
Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, expressed that any oral or IV treatment for her husband should only proceed with consent from her, family, and long-term doctors. Wangchuk initiated a hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged NEET examination irregularities. He also planned a march to Parliament House on July 20 to press for Pradhan’s resignation during the Monsoon Session.
