Residents in Delhi are currently experiencing relief from the intense heatwave that hit the city in April. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies for Saturday, helping to moderate the temperature rise. The air quality in the capital remains in the ‘moderate’ category.
Following rainfall and hailstorms on Thursday, temperatures in Delhi dropped below normal levels on Friday. This change has made the weather more comfortable compared to the recent heatwave conditions. The maximum temperature settled at 36.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.9 degrees below the seasonal average, with the minimum temperature at 22.8 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees below normal.
Similar conditions are expected to continue on Saturday, with partly cloudy skies and maximum temperatures ranging between 38 and 41 degrees Celsius. Although the intensity of the heatwave has decreased, residents may still feel some discomfort due to humidity. However, light evening winds are anticipated to provide partial relief.
Weather stations in Delhi reported temperatures lower than usual. Safdarjung recorded the highest temperature at 36.4 degrees Celsius, while other areas like Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Ayanagar also experienced temperatures below normal levels. Minimum temperatures across the city followed a similar trend, with readings below the usual range for this time of year.
The drop in temperature has been welcomed by residents who had been enduring rising heat in recent days. Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi remains in the ‘moderate’ category, with AQI readings at various locations across the city.
