Delhi is expected to have mostly sunny skies on Sunday, with temperatures reaching a high of 41 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department forecasts temperatures between 39-41 degrees Celsius, dropping to 35-37 degrees Celsius by Wednesday. High humidity levels will make it feel hotter, with a heat index of around 48 degrees Celsius during peak afternoon hours.
The combination of high temperatures and humidity is likely to create uncomfortable conditions in Delhi, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially in the afternoon. Saturday saw a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius, with the heat index soaring to 48.4 degrees Celsius, making outdoor conditions harsher than expected.
The India Meteorological Department reported that Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 30.8 degrees Celsius, above normal levels. The maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius was also higher than usual. Other weather stations in Delhi recorded elevated minimum temperatures as well.
While trace rainfall was observed in isolated parts of Delhi on Saturday, the day remained mostly dry. Sunday is expected to be hot with partly cloudy skies and the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. Strong surface winds of 20–30 kmph, gusting up to 40 kmph, are expected during the day.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday and Wednesday, predicting rain and thunderstorms in the capital. Weather conditions are expected to intensify during these days, with the possibility of light rain in the coming days.
