The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has confirmed 1,094 Ebola cases, with 277 deaths, in the outbreak declared on May 15. The World Health Organization (WHO) noted a record caseload in the first month.
Official data revealed 387 cases under quarantine or treatment, with 115 recoveries. The DRC reported 131 suspected cases, including 44 suspected deaths. The health ministry observed a rise in confirmed cases weekly, indicating ongoing community transmissions.
Intensified public health measures, such as enhanced surveillance and diagnostic capacity, have aided in early detection. The WHO highlighted the rapid increase in treatment and laboratory capacity. DRC President Felix Tshisekedi plans to visit the outbreak’s epicenter in Ituri province to oversee response operations.
