Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, highlighted India’s significant global position during the India-Nordic Summit in Oslo. She emphasized the importance of cooperation between Nordic countries and India to foster stability, prosperity, and unity amidst global uncertainties. Frederiksen stated that uniting with India, one of the major global powers, can contribute to addressing the rapidly changing world challenges.
The summit, which concluded as the third India-Nordic Summit, focused on reinforcing support for international law and promoting a rules-based order that necessitates reform and progress. Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Store, underlined the discussions’ emphasis on achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and resolving conflicts in the Middle East through diplomatic means.
Leaders at the summit also reviewed collaboration in security and trade, exploring avenues to enhance economic ties within the framework of India’s engagements with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and the European Union. They discussed the significance of upholding international law, the need for reforms in the rules-based order, and the pursuit of peaceful resolutions in conflict zones like Ukraine and the Middle East.
Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the robust cooperation, both bilaterally and within the Nordic context. He acknowledged the potential benefits of the EU-India free trade agreement for both regions and highlighted opportunities for expanding partnerships in various sectors, including investments, innovation, diplomacy, and defense cooperation.
Finnish Prime Minister, Petteri Orpo, emphasized the shared priorities between Nordic nations and India, such as reinforcing the rules-based international order and addressing climate change through sustained multilateral efforts. He mentioned the establishment of a strategic partnership in digitalization and sustainability, expressing Finland’s commitment to translating this partnership into tangible actions.
Iceland’s Prime Minister, Kristrun Frostadottir, noted the significance of the summit in showcasing the interconnectedness of Nordic countries with India despite geographical distances. She highlighted shared interests and the potential for collaboration, particularly in areas like geothermal energy and renewables. Frostadottir also expressed the importance of fostering relationships like “sambandh” in today’s world for greater connectivity and mutual benefit.
