A significant number of devotees visited the holy Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Wednesday for the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Purnima. Pilgrims arrived since early morning at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati Rivers to partake in rituals and seek blessings despite adverse weather conditions.
Devotees were observed offering prayers, taking ceremonial dips, and performing acts of charity along the riverbanks, following Hindu traditions. The day holds great spiritual importance as per Hindu beliefs, emphasizing the cleansing of sins and the ushering of peace, prosperity, and joy through rituals on Chaitra Purnima.
On this Hindu calendar milestone, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, devotees engage in the ‘Satyanarayan Vrat’ and special pujas, both at home and in temples. Many households conduct ‘Satyanarayan Katha’ and share ‘bhog prasad’ with family and the community to mark the occasion.
Chaitra Purnima commenced at 7.06 a.m. on April 1 and will conclude at 7.41 a.m. on April 2, coinciding with the full moon appearance on April 1. The day also involves devotees offering Arghya to the Sun God and later to the moon, integral parts of the ritual observed on this day.
For those unable to visit sacred sites, religious customs recommend adding Gangajal to bathwater at home symbolically for purification. Additionally, donating to the needy in the form of food, clothing, and essentials is considered highly virtuous on Chaitra Purnima.
The day’s significance is deeply rooted in ancient legends surrounding the Satyanarayan Vrat, with stories of devotees overcoming hardships and regaining prosperity through sincere observance of the ritual. In Prayagraj, a spiritual ambiance prevailed throughout the day, resonating with chants, prayers, and devotional activities as crowds gathered to commemorate the sacred festival.
