District Magistrate Pratibha Rani of Sheohar has suspended Revenue Officer Ramkrit Mahto from Puranhia block in Bihar following his arrest by the Special Vigilance Unit for allegedly accepting a bribe. The incident occurred on January 5 when Mahto was caught red-handed accepting Rs 10,000 in exchange for a land ownership transfer.
The vigilance department took action based on a complaint from the victim and subsequent verification of the allegations. A raid was conducted leading to Mahto’s arrest, with legal proceedings initiated under the relevant laws. District Magistrate Rani emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and negligence in the district administration.
The suspension has caused a stir in the revenue department and other government offices in the district. The public has welcomed the move, viewing it as a strong stance against corruption within the administration. In a similar vein, the District Magistrate of Araria suspended revenue official Mohammad Imtiaz Alam for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 for correcting land records.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms Vijay Kumar Sinha has reiterated a firm stance against corruption in the department. Sinha emphasized the importance of government employees ensuring transparent and timely services for citizens and farmers, without resorting to corrupt practices.
