A Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) local functionary named Kalanidhi was brutally killed by an unidentified gang near Tirumangalam in Madurai district, Tamil Nadu. The incident has raised worries about the state’s law and order situation under the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Kalanidhi, from Iluppankulam village, was attacked while riding a two-wheeler with his associate Ajith.
The attackers, reportedly following them in a car, intercepted the motorcycle and viciously assaulted Kalanidhi with sickles before fleeing the scene. Kalanidhi succumbed to severe injuries on the spot, while Ajith sustained critical wounds and was hospitalized for treatment. Police promptly responded, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination at the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital.
Authorities have initiated a case and formed special teams to track down the assailants. Investigations are underway to determine if the murder stemmed from past disputes, political animosity, or personal motives. The incident led to protests by Kalanidhi’s relatives and locals outside the hospital, demanding swift arrests of the perpetrators. After discussions with senior police officials, the protesters dispersed, highlighting concerns over public safety and law enforcement in the state.
