The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is gearing up for its 12th State Conference at Siruganur near Tiruchy on March 9. Party leaders anticipate that this event will boost the morale of cadres ahead of the state elections. Preparations for the conference are in full swing at a vast venue spanning nearly 20 lakh square feet, adorned with party flags and banners.
The ruling party has placed significant importance on this gathering, expecting attendees from all over Tamil Nadu. Police officials have made elaborate arrangements to handle the crowd and traffic during the event. Nearly 24,000 vehicles are projected to converge at the venue on the conference day, prompting authorities to devise special traffic diversion strategies to avert congestion.
DMK principal secretary K.N. Nehru, during his inspection of the venue, mentioned that the party foresees a turnout of approximately 10 lakh cadres and supporters on March 9. This conference is viewed as a crucial platform to reinforce party unity and rally workers for upcoming political endeavors. The previous conference in 2021, held at the same location, significantly boosted the party’s spirit before the Assembly elections.
Party leaders anticipate that the upcoming conference will witness significant announcements or policy directions from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, akin to the visionary plans revealed during the 2021 event. The gathering aims to fortify the party’s influence in central Tamil Nadu and the Cauvery delta region, pivotal areas for DMK’s success in the 2021 Assembly election. The party secured victory in 37 out of 41 constituencies in these regions, including all nine in Tiruchy district.
Long-time party member T. Durgadevi reminisced about the massive participation in previous Tiruchy conferences, highlighting the historical significance of these events in rallying cadres. From the era of Kalaignar to the present leadership of Stalin, Tiruchy conferences have consistently drawn large crowds, with supporters traveling from various parts of the state.
