With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections nearing, political activities in the state have escalated. The DMK’s Youth Wing is organizing a significant South Zone Conference in Virudhunagar district, where Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is set to deliver a special address. The event, themed ‘Tamil Nadu Will Never Bow Its Head,’ aims to boost morale among party workers and enhance organizational unity before the polls.
The DMK has been actively engaging its volunteers through various meetings and conventions over the past year. These initiatives include gatherings like a General Committee meeting in Madurai, the ‘Udhbirappae Vaa’ outreach event, the DMK Mupperum Festival in Karur, a youth conference in Tiruvannamalai, and women’s conferences in Tiruppur and Thanjavur. The conference in Virudhunagar is part of this ongoing effort to mobilize support regionally.
Scheduled to commence at 3 p.m., the conference is anticipated to attract over one lakh administrators and functionaries from 20 organizational districts. Representatives from various levels within the Youth Wing, including district, city, union, town, and panchayat, are expected to participate. Organizers estimate a total turnout of around 1.5 lakh members, with extensive arrangements made across nearly 100 acres of land.
Preparations for the event include a large pavilion, a main stage, dining facilities for attendees, and a special ramp-walk stage for the Chief Minister. Deputy Chief Minister and Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin personally oversaw the venue and reviewed the arrangements beforehand. Ahead of the conference, CM Stalin released a video message appreciating the young cadres and commending Udhayanidhi’s leadership of the Youth Wing.
In a separate video addressing the Virudhunagar meet, the Chief Minister highlighted the DMK’s growing organizational strength, causing unease among opposition parties. Political analysts interpret the conference as a clear indication of the DMK gearing up for the campaign season, relying significantly on its youth supporters to generate momentum for the upcoming electoral battle.
