Passengers at Dumka railway station in Jharkhand will soon benefit from a major upgrade. The Eastern Railway is transforming the New Madanpur halt into a modern block station with advanced goods shed facilities. This upgrade aims to alleviate issues like coal dust, traffic congestion, and noise pollution that passengers currently face at Dumka.
The new station will enhance logistics infrastructure and support economic development in the region. Dumka, a crucial railway station in the Santhal Pargana region, handles significant freight traffic, including coal, stone, sand, and food grains. With coal loading expected to double to six rakes per day, the shift to New Madanpur station will greatly improve the daily lives of passengers.
By relocating heavy coal freight operations to New Madanpur, located strategically 4.20 km away from Dumka, passengers can look forward to cleaner air and a healthier environment. Additionally, this move will divert heavy trucks away from the city center, reducing traffic congestion on local roads. Passengers will still have seamless transit options to Jasidih (JSME) and Bhagalpur without disruptions.
The upgraded railhead at New Madanpur will cater to the increasing coal evacuation needs of local captive coal blocks. This project will support the anticipated rise in commercial coal traffic and meet the logistics demands of major power-generation entities supplying coal to plants in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, it will serve the Saharpur-Jamarpani and Pachwara South coal blocks, operated by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (UPRVUNL) and Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) respectively.
Shibram Majhi, CPRO of Eastern Railway, emphasized the commitment to balancing industrial growth with public well-being. The transformation of New Madanpur into a full-fledged goods shed station not only addresses the power sector’s logistical needs but also ensures a cleaner and more peaceful environment for the people of Dumka.
