The 135th IndianOil Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football tournament, will kick off on July 25 with the Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC. The tournament features renowned teams like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohammedan SC, and Indian Army Football Team. Kolkata will host the group stage, quarter-final, semi-final, and final on August 23.
Indranil Khan, Minister of State, Government of West Bengal, emphasized the tournament’s significance for football enthusiasts in the state. The Trophy Tour, spanning five host states, has built excitement for the upcoming edition. Rajesh Pandey, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal, praised the Durand Cup’s distinguished heritage and government support for this historic tournament.
The Durand Cup, organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, is the world’s third-oldest football competition. With a legacy dating back to 1888, the tournament brings together top clubs, Services teams, and international participants. This year’s edition will feature 24 teams, including a foreign side from the Sri Lankan armed forces.
