The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Jammu and Kashmir Police has submitted a chargesheet against an individual involved in a Cambodia job scam. The accused is charged with deceiving individuals by offering fake overseas employment opportunities. Victims were enticed with the promise of a lucrative computer operator job with a monthly salary of Rs 90,000.
A statement from the crime branch Kashmir revealed that the accused duped a youth by initially promising a high-paying computer operator position in Cambodia. Subsequently, after extracting significant sums in the guise of employment and travel expenses, the victims were coerced into engaging in online scamming activities upon their arrival in Cambodia. The chargesheet was filed by the EOW, Kashmir, of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir Police in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused, Mohd Yaseen Rather.
Following a complaint, an investigation was launched which confirmed the fraudulent activities of the accused. The complainant had transferred substantial amounts of money to the accused’s account and incurred expenses for visa processing and travel based on the promise of employment. However, upon reaching Cambodia, instead of the promised job, the victim was compelled to participate in online scamming operations. The chargesheet has been filed in the competent court based on the established allegations.
The public is cautioned to be wary of such economic frauds and urged to report any such incidents to the SSP, EOW Kashmir (Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir). Victims of economic fraud are encouraged to lodge complaints via email at [email protected].
