The Ecuador Football Federation has raised concerns with FIFA regarding the treatment they received from Mexican fans before their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match against Mexico. Mexican fans gathered around Ecuador’s team hotel, playing loud music, chanting team slogans, and setting off fireworks, disturbing the players’ rest. In response, the FEF filed an official complaint, emphasizing the need for fair play and unity in World Cup events.
The FEF urged authorities to closely monitor such incidents and ensure the safety of Ecuador’s players, coaching staff, and supporters. They emphasized the importance of upholding respect, healthy competition, and fair play during the World Cup. Despite Ecuador’s efforts, Mexico secured a place in the Round of 16 with goals from Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez, while Ecuador failed to capitalize on their chances and exited the tournament.
Mexico is set to face the winner of the England vs. Congo DR Round of 32 match at the Mexico City Stadium on July 6, continuing their journey in the World Cup.
