The Enforcement Directorate detained Joy Kamdar, the Managing Director of Sun Enterprise, in connection with a money laundering case involving criminal Sona Pappu. Kamdar was taken into custody following a raid at his residence in Behala, South Kolkata. Additionally, the ED conducted searches at two premises linked to Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas in Ballygunge as part of the same operation.
Locals suggest that Kamdar is primarily engaged in real estate development and construction businesses. Cash was recovered from Kamdar’s residence during the raid, with the ED having previously summoned him twice for questioning, which he had avoided. The investigation is part of a case against Sona Pappu, who faces charges of attempted murder and extortion.
Sona Pappu, known for operating syndicates in Kasba and Ballygunge areas of South Kolkata, is accused in multiple cases and is currently absconding. The ED alleges that Pappu extorted money from construction companies, rerouting it to influential individuals. The agency had seized cash, gold jewelry, silver, and a revolver during earlier searches related to the case.
