Eid-ul-Adha was observed with enthusiasm in Jammu and Kashmir as worshippers gathered at mosques and Eidgahs to pray and promote brotherhood and harmony. Large congregations were seen in various places like Jammu, Budgam, Banihal, Shopian, and Kupwara. In Budgam, Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian President, Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, led prayers at the Markazi Imambada, emphasizing peace and prosperity. Extending greetings, he highlighted the values of compassion, sacrifice, and humanity on this special day.
In Jammu, thousands of devotees assembled at Eidgah Jammu to offer prayers, emphasizing the significance of unity and peaceful coexistence. In Banihal, locals gathered at the Eidgah for prayers where Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) MLA Sajjad Shaheen conveyed Eid greetings, praying for peace and progress. Shopian witnessed a large turnout for Eid prayers, while Jamia Masjid in Kupwara district also observed peaceful prayers. Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid, holds great significance in Islam, symbolizing faith, obedience, compassion, gratitude, sacrifice, forgiveness, and charity. Families come together for prayers, festive meals, and acts of kindness during this occasion.
While Jammu and Kashmir celebrated Eid-ul-Adha on May 27, most other states in India will observe it on May 28 due to regional Moon-sighting practices. The holiday date was adjusted following announcements by religious bodies about the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah. Various institutions, including government offices and the Supreme Court, revised their schedules accordingly. States like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also rescheduled the Bakrid holiday based on Moon-sighting announcements.
