Eintracht Frankfurt has announced the hiring of Albert Riera as their new head coach. Riera, a 43-year-old Spaniard, has been awarded a contract until June 2028. He is set to take over from Dino Toppmoller, who was relieved of his duties due to inconsistent league performances that saw Frankfurt lagging in mid-table standings.
Riera, known for his modern and attacking style of football, is scheduled to assume his role at the Bundesliga club on Monday. Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Kroesche, expressed confidence in Riera’s abilities, citing his international experience, tactical acumen, and structured approach to coaching. Riera’s appointment comes as the club aims to revamp its sporting direction for the upcoming challenges.
Having previously managed NK Celje in Slovenia, Riera’s coaching philosophy and communication skills impressed the Frankfurt management during discussions. The club finalized the agreement with Celje after negotiations, with Riera set to debut as head coach in an eagerly anticipated match against Union Berlin next Friday.
Riera will be supported by assistants Pablo Remon Arteta and Lorenzo Dolcetti, who have worked with him in Slovenia. Meanwhile, existing assistants Jan Fiesser and goalkeeping coach Jan Zimmermann will continue in their roles. With a rich playing career that includes stints at Liverpool, Manchester City, and Galatasaray, as well as 16 appearances for the Spanish national team, Riera brings a wealth of experience to his new coaching position.
