The Election Commission of India disclosed data from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, highlighting Gujarat’s highest deletion of over 68 lakh electors and Lakshadweep’s lowest deletion of 206 names. The final electoral rolls for several regions including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan were published, showcasing the extent of deletions and revisions made to ensure accurate voter lists.
Gujarat’s total electorate decreased from 5,08,43,436 to 4,40,30,725 post the SIR exercise, with 68,12,711 names deleted, representing a net change of 13.40 percent. Deletions were made due to reasons like death, migration, duplicate enrollments, and statutory grounds after field verification. The net change in the number of electors during the SIR exercise was highest in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 16.87 percent, followed by Gujarat at 13.40 percent.
In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the elector count dropped from 3,10,404 to 2,58,040, resulting in the deletion of 52,364 names. Madhya Pradesh saw a decline from 5,74,06,143 to 5,39,81,065 electors post-revision, with 34,25,078 names deleted, marking a net change of 5.97 percent. Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Goa, and Puducherry also witnessed reductions in their elector numbers following the SIR exercise.
The revision exercise aimed to uphold the accuracy and integrity of electoral rolls by systematically verifying and eliminating ineligible entries.
