Elena Rybakina secured the Australian Open women’s singles title by defeating Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling final. The Kazakh player avenged her loss to Sabalenka in the 2023 final by winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 after a tough battle lasting two hours and 18 minutes. This victory marked Rybakina’s second Grand Slam title, with 28 winners contributing to her success.
After claiming the first set 6-4, Sabalenka fought back by breaking Rybakina in the final game of the second set, leading to a decisive third set. Despite facing challenges with her serve, Rybakina managed to secure a crucial break and a 2-0 lead in the third set with a pair of backhand winners. She continued to dominate, eventually sealing a 5-3 advantage and winning the match with an ace.
Rybakina’s victory at the Australian Open comes after a season where she struggled to progress beyond the fourth round of any Grand Slam. On the other hand, Sabalenka, who had been in impressive form throughout the tournament, missed out on the opportunity to claim her fifth major title, joining a select group of greats.
