Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer is considering establishing a base in India for its smaller jets to compete with aerospace giants Airbus and Boeing. The company aims to cater to airlines seeking to reduce fuel costs and cope with delays in aircraft deliveries. Emphasis is on India and the Gulf markets for growth opportunities in fuel-efficient aircraft for secondary cities and thinner routes.
Discussions are underway for potential manufacturing and assembly operations in India, as Embraer looks to partner with Adani Defence and Aerospace for setting up a final assembly line for its popular E-Jets. The company is working on commitments from airlines and engaging with the government for this endeavor.
Embraer foresees India’s aviation growth focusing on connecting smaller cities, aligning with the country’s regional air connectivity scheme, UDAN. The company sees potential for its E-jet family in India, especially in the 75-seat segment, to support expanding regional connectivity initiatives.
In collaboration with Mahindra Group, Embraer’s Defence and Security division is set to locally produce the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft in India. The company advocates for the efficient use of smaller jets alongside larger narrowbody aircraft, targeting markets in India and the Gulf region for growth opportunities.
