An encounter erupted between Maoists and security forces in the forest areas of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. The clash occurred in the Tonto police station area while the CoBRA 209 Battalion was patrolling the dense forests of Rutughutu. Security forces have been engaged in an intensive search operation for the past two days in the Boroi and Toonbeda areas under the Goelkera police station limits.
The Maoists, waiting to ambush, fired upon the patrol team around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. In response, security personnel swiftly retaliated, leading to an ongoing intermittent exchange of fire. A high alert has been issued in the region post the incident, with security forces cordoning off the affected area and deploying additional personnel on alert.
West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Amit Renu mentioned that extensive search operations are in progress in the forested areas, with close monitoring of the situation. Concerns have been raised about increased Maoist activity in the Goelkera region following the recent killing of a former Maoist. Security agencies have received intelligence indicating potential heightened Maoist activity in the bordering forest regions of Saranda and Kolhan.
Security measures have been heightened across the West Singhbhum district post the encounter, with a high alert declared in sensitive forest areas of the Kolhan region. Police and paramilitary forces are actively conducting search operations in the challenging forest terrain to dominate the area and eliminate Maoist presence.
