The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids and search operations in Kolkata related to an extortion-linked money laundering case. The operations began at 7 a.m., targeting various locations including businessman Biswajit Poddar’s house in Kasba and a company office in Ballygunge. ED officials mentioned multiple FIRs against Biswajit Poddar, investigating allegations of extortion and threats.
Several syndicates in Kasba and Ballygunge allegedly controlled by Biswajit Poddar triggered the ED investigation following claims of withdrawing large sums from construction firms to benefit influential individuals. The recent raids aimed to probe these accusations, extending to other sites in South Kolkata, including ‘Sun Enterprises’ in Ballygunge. The connection between Biswajit Poddar and ‘Sun Enterprises’ remains unclear.
Speculations arose linking Biswajit Poddar to Debashis Kumar, the Trinamool president of south Kolkata, and Rashbehari Assembly constituency candidate. Notably, Debashis Kumar faced ED questioning earlier, preceding the recent raid at Biswajit Poddar’s residence. Biswajit Poddar’s involvement in a recent Golpark clash has stirred controversy, with conflicting claims from locals and the accused denying any role in the incident.
