The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called IPS officer Gaurav Lal and businessman Joy Kamdar for questioning regarding the investigation and searches at Sona Pappu’s residence in Kasba and Ballygunge areas of Kolkata. Gaurav Lal, previously with Kolkata Police, is now serving in Howrah Police. The ED conducted searches at Sona Pappu’s house on April 1, along with businessman Joy Kamdar’s residence, leading to the seizure of a significant amount of money.
Joy Kamdar has now been summoned by the ED for further inquiries. The searches conducted on April 1 covered a total of eight locations, resulting in the confiscation of approximately Rs 1.47 crore. Additionally, gold and silver jewelry valued at Rs 67.64 lakh were recovered during the raids. A Fortuner car belonging to Sona Pappu was also seized, along with a revolver marked ‘Made in USA,’ which was handed over to the police to ensure the integrity of the Assembly elections in West Bengal.
The ED’s investigation into Sona Pappu was initiated based on multiple FIRs filed by the West Bengal and Kolkata police, leading to cases being registered against him under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959. Sona Pappu, who is currently evading authorities, faces allegations of money laundering and is being sought by the police in connection with the Kankulia clash incident. Despite receiving summons from the ED, Sona Pappu failed to appear before the officials, opting instead to address the situation on social media, alleging mistreatment of his family during the ED raids.
Involved in the Rabindra Sarovar clash incident, Sona Pappu remains at large, with several FIRs lodged against him for various offenses, including extortion and threats. The ED’s actions were prompted by these allegations, seeking to investigate the claims against Sona Pappu thoroughly.
