A district court has granted bail to event organiser Tanay Shastri in the case involving the harassment of Bengali actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty. However, Shastri and two associates will remain in judicial custody for four more days for obstructing the police during the investigation. This means Shastri will not be released immediately.
The incident occurred at a social event in Nayagopalganj, Bongaon, where Shastri, a club official, allegedly harassed Mimi Chakraborty by forcing her off the stage and stopping the music due to her late arrival. Following this, Chakraborty filed a complaint against Shastri at the Bongaon police station.
On January 29, the police faced resistance from Shastri and his associates during the investigation, leading to their arrest on charges of harassing the police. Despite the police requesting seven days of custody, the judge ordered four days of judicial custody. The accused were brought to court on January 30, and the police sought an extension of custody along with adding molestation charges. Although bail was denied, Tanay Shastri was granted bail in Mimi Chakraborty’s case but will remain in custody until February 11 for obstructing and harassing the police.
