The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reported a surge in Piped Natural Gas (PNG) expansion, with 3.42 lakh connections gasified and 3.7 lakh new registrations since March 2026. States have been advised to facilitate new PNG connections for domestic and commercial consumers. Efforts are being made to ensure the availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG, urging citizens to avoid panic purchases and unnecessary bookings.
The government is encouraging the use of digital modes for LPG cylinder bookings and promoting alternative fuels like PNG, induction, and electric cooktops. Citizens are requested to conserve energy in their daily usage and rely on official sources for accurate information. Amid disruptions due to the Iran war, domestic LPG and PNG, along with hospitals and educational institutions, are receiving top priority.
To address the demand, the government has implemented various measures, including enhancing refinery production and extending booking intervals for LPG cylinders. Alternative fuel options such as kerosene and coal are being offered to ease pressure on LPG demand. States are advised to manage targeted distribution of 5 kg LPG cylinders based on local needs.
A meeting chaired by the Petroleum Secretary with state officials emphasized ensuring adequate fuel supply and prioritizing LPG distribution for domestic and essential needs. States were directed to prevent hoarding, diversion, and misinformation while maintaining stable LPG supplies for migrant workers.
