Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has apprehended a notorious human trafficker, listed in the FIA red book, connected to the tragic Greece boat capsize of June 2023. The accused, previously a constable in Pakistan’s Elite Force, faced charges of resisting and assaulting FIA officials during a raid in Gujrat district earlier this year.

Waqas Ali, also known as Waqas Butt, the wanted trafficker, was captured by FIA Composite Circle, Gujrat, as per a senior FIA official. He is a proclaimed offender involved in various FIA cases and was directly linked to the 2023 Libya shipwreck, where he duped families by promising illegal routes to Greece for a hefty sum.

The detained trafficker, a former Elite Force constable dismissed in 2023, extorted significant amounts from affected families. In a separate incident, two individuals were intercepted at Multan International Airport for attempting to misuse Umrah visas to enter Europe, highlighting a concerning trend flagged by FIA headquarters.
