Over 15 people lost their lives, and more than 80 individuals sustained injuries in a powerful explosion at an imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area during Friday prayers. The blast caused significant panic in the Pakistani capital, with the death toll rising to 15 and the number of injured surpassing 80, as confirmed by local authorities.
Reports indicate that the explosion, suspected to be a suicide bombing, led to the sealing of the blast site for evidence collection. This incident adds to a series of recent attacks in Pakistan, including assaults in Balochistan targeting both security forces and civilians. The attack coincided with the official visit of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Islamabad.
Authorities are investigating the nature of the blast, with forensics teams working to determine whether it was a suicide attack or a planted bomb. According to local officials, the suicide bomber detonated himself after being intercepted at the mosque’s entrance, as reported by the Islamabad Capital Territory Police Spokesperson.
