Days after the Assembly poll notification was issued for West Bengal, a significant amount of explosives was discovered in Birbhum district. Villagers intercepted a tractor carrying a large consignment of explosives on Tuesday night and alerted the police. The police, acting on the tip-off, seized the tractor and its explosive cargo in Kadasir village under the Nalhati Police Station’s jurisdiction.
The seized explosives comprised 10,000 gelatin sticks and 360 detonators. Despite the recovery, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Local residents reported that the tractor, loaded with explosives, was passing through Kadasir village when villagers stopped it. The driver abandoned the vehicle upon sensing trouble.
Upon inspection, the villagers found the tractor packed with explosives, causing alarm in the area. They promptly informed the police, leading to the seizure of both the explosives and the tractor by officers from the Nalhati Police Station. Authorities are now investigating the transportation of the explosives, raising questions about the purpose and destination of the consignment.
The discovery of explosives being transported in Birbhum just before the elections has stirred concern among locals. Residents expressed shock at the quantity of explosives being moved through the village and are calling for a thorough police investigation into the matter.
