External Affairs Minister Jaishankar addressed the theme ‘Partnership for Progress’ in Paramaribo, Suriname, highlighting India’s global role and the importance of partnerships for advancement. He emphasized the significance of progress in a challenging world and the effectiveness of partnerships in achieving it. Jaishankar underscored India’s position in global politics, focusing on development partnerships, the global workforce, first responder capabilities, and new initiatives.
Jaishankar expressed India’s commitment to partnering with Suriname in its growth journey and co-authoring the next chapter of the India-Suriname narrative. Additionally, he planted a sapling at India House in Suriname as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. Furthermore, Jaishankar inaugurated a fruit-processing facility in Paramaribo, funded by India under the Small and Medium Enterprises grant, emphasizing India’s role as a partner to Suriname and the Global South.
During the event, Jaishankar highlighted India’s belief in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world as a family, through tangible projects and activities. He assured Suriname of India’s steadfast support in its pursuit of progress and prosperity, underscoring the enduring partnership between the two nations. The Minister was accompanied by Suriname’s Foreign Minister Melvin Bouva and Agriculture Minister Nike Noersalim at the ceremony.
