Former MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins will be leaving Yamaha at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season, as confirmed by the Japanese manufacturer. Quartararo, who joined Yamaha in 2019, achieved significant success with 11 wins and 32 podium finishes, including winning the championship in 2021. Known for his enthusiasm and commitment, Quartararo has been a beloved figure during his time with the team.
On the other hand, Alex Rins was signed by Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP in 2024 after a stint with Honda. His experience and winning record were seen as valuable assets that could bring fresh perspectives to Yamaha’s YZR-M1 machine in its competition against rivals. Despite their potential, Quartararo and Rins have struggled to secure podium finishes together this season, with only one podium between them at the Spanish Grand Prix last year.
Yamaha has faced challenges in recent years, with Quartararo and Rins currently placed 15th and 17th in the riders’ standings, and the team positioned near the bottom of the constructors’ championship with 64 points. However, the manufacturer has affirmed that both riders will continue to give their best efforts until the conclusion of the 2026 season, aiming for the best possible results.
Paolo Pavesio, Yamaha Motor Racing Managing Director, expressed gratitude towards Quartararo and Rins for their contributions to the MotoGP project. Pavesio highlighted Quartararo’s eight-year journey with Yamaha, emphasizing the shared successes and challenges that have shaped their relationship. Regarding Rins, Pavesio acknowledged his valuable experience and commitment to the YZR-M1 project’s development since joining Yamaha in 2024.
