New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to discuss key development roadmaps, infrastructure progress and Centre‑State initiatives.

During his visit, CM Fadnavis submitted a comprehensive memorandum requesting central assistance for state projects and held strategic discussions with Union ministers. He also dismissed speculation about shifting to national politics.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Fadnavis said the interaction with Prime Minister Modi focused on accelerating major developmental and infrastructure works in Maharashtra.

“I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the administration and various ongoing projects in Maharashtra. I also submitted updates on joint Centre‑State initiatives and detailed the support expected from the Central Government. Whenever we seek assistance and hold discussions, it yields positive outcomes, and today’s discussion was equally fruitful,” he stated.

The discussions centred on highway networks, railway links, metro expansion and river‑linking projects. Fadnavis outlined the progress of several major state projects and sought extended assistance from the Government of India for joint schemes.

He delivered a status report on infrastructure, industrial and social sector projects and requested enhanced support to accelerate implementation.

Highlighting the significance of the Prime Minister’s guidance, Fadnavis described the meeting as “motivating” and filled with positive energy.

He said: “I called on and met our global leader, the nation’s beloved PM Hon Narendra Modi Ji in New Delhi today. We had a detailed discussion on various topics. I briefed him on the progress of numerous developmental projects and requested more support from GoI on the joint Centre‑State projects. Meeting our PM Sir was motivating, and it invoked positive energy. I’m ever grateful to Him for the perpetual and precious guidance on developmental issues and for the strong support to Maharashtra.”

The Prime Minister’s Office also acknowledged the meeting in an official release: “Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri @Dev_Fadnavis met Prime Minister @narendramodi.”

When asked about opposition speculation over his trip to Delhi, Fadnavis said Prime Minister Modi and the people of Maharashtra had entrusted him with the responsibility of serving the state, and he remained committed to serving its citizens from Mumbai.

He brushed aside rumours of a shift to central politics, remarking that gossip was inevitable.

“Whether I am in Delhi or Mumbai, rumours inevitably start. Many idle people take pleasure in gossiping about me, so let them enjoy themselves. Whatever wild assumptions they want to make, or kites and balloons they want to fly, let them go ahead,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fadnavis met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.

With Sitharaman, he submitted a proposal concerning the JICA‑funded project and confirmed that the state would incorporate the ministry’s suggestions.

In his meeting with Yadav, Fadnavis submitted reports and followed up on crucial environmental and forest‑related clearances needed for state developments.
