Four members of a family tragically lost their lives when their house collapsed in Moratagi village of Alamel taluk in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district during heavy rain and strong winds. The victims, identified as Gurunath Badiger (35), Jyoti Badiger (28), Kalamma Badiger (13), and Keerthi Badiger (9), were residing in a rented old house while repairs were ongoing at their own residence.
Officials reported that the old house caved in following intense rain and gusty winds that struck the area overnight, leading to the family being trapped under the debris and fatally buried. Police from Sindagi station and fire and emergency services personnel promptly responded to the scene, initiating rescue operations to recover the bodies from the collapsed structure.
The rescue efforts proved to be challenging due to the house’s mud roof and the substantial amount of soil that covered the victims after the collapse. The incident has caused distress in the village, with emotional scenes of mourning witnessed among family members at the site. Rescue teams, along with the police, persisted in their endeavors to clear the debris and retrieve the bodies.
In a separate incident, an eight-year-old girl named Akshata lost her life after a house wall collapsed in Yadgir district of Karnataka. The tragic event occurred in Tumakuru village in Vadagera taluk, where heavy rainfall caused the kitchen wall of a house to collapse while Akshata was playing with other children, resulting in her immediate death.
